PARSONS TO SIGN WITH EASTERN KENTUCKY

6Õ3 shooting guard and pitcher extraordinaire Ryan Parsons has signed to continue his basketball career at Eastern Kentucky. Currently, the ace of the Morgantown High regional finalist baseball team, has been working out in the Clyde gym when we caught up with him. ÒI was offered scholarships at lower division schools, but the academic structure is a lot better at EKU and I am excited to be a part of a Division I program. It was too great of an opportunity to pass up. Everyone made me feel welcome on my visit,Ó said Parsons. Ryan will Òwalk onÓ in the fall and will be remembered for his dedication and leadership to the Mohigan basketball program. He averaged double figure points and shot over 40% from three point range on this yearÕs 19-5 and state quarterfinals team. ÒWe are very proud of Ryan and his commitment, said Coach Hoffman. ÒHe will make us all proud. Now he needs to go on and win a state championship for our baseball team.Ó

RED AND BLUE LEAGUE TO CONTINUE NEXT WEDNESDAY

The Morgantown Red and Blue League will continue next Wednesday at MHS. The league, for 6th, 7th and 8th graders will last through the summer and will last one hour starting at 6:00. It is open to all MYBO members and Mohigan camp participants. ÒSome of the bigger 7th graders will be asked to participate with the 8th grade, so they can be challenged,Ó said player development Coach Hoffman. ÒThe idea is for the kids to stay in the gym throughout the summer and fall, so they can be prepared for their teams next year.Ó

ÒThe teams will be chosen each evening, because some nights, families may have activities planned and some players may not be able to make it,Ó said Hoffman. ÒPlayers show up at the top of the hour, teams are picked and they will play 2 games (Running clock, 10 minute halves; up to 3 courts may be used). They will learn to call their own fouls, keep score, be leaders, be good teammates, etcÉ and MYBO Officials will be there to monitor. ItÕs a safe environment and an alternative for kids that just want to play. ItÕs cheap as well. MHS gives us the gym for a small donation.Ó The $40 charge pays for the reversible jersey and a donation to MHS Boys basketball.

To join the league, make a check out to MYBO for $40 and bring it to the gym on Wednesday. The Red and Blue League is free to anyone that paid the $95 spring fee. However, email Coach Hoffman at jeffhoffman@mohiganbasketball.com to get on the mailing list so that you can be informed of schedule changes. (There will be WednesdayÕs league nights that will be canceled due to the gym not being available, so check your email for cancellations).

Tentative schedule:

June 2, 9 (the rest of June is the High School 3 week workout period, gyms not available)

July 7, 21, 28 (July 14 is Jam Fest, gyms not available)

August 4, 11, 18

MYBO WORKOUTS FINIISH FOR THE SPRING

MYBO Spring workouts for 6th and 7th graders finished last week at MHS and have been held every Tuesday and Thursday evening for the past few months. The Morgantown High coaching staff has been working on fundamentals and has taught parts of the MHS system. The clinic was split into 2 phases with one being the fundamental phase and the other a playing phase.

ÒIt has been great to see so many kids come out and be willing to work and listen,Ó said MHS Assistant Coach Crouso. ÒWe have had over 30 kids come and there is some serious talent in the two age groups. There were nights that the 6th grade really dominated, but tonight, (Tuesday) the 7th grade took over.Ó

Players were given reversible practice jerseys and should wear them on Thursday for the last clinic.
